Natural dying with Margaret Rogerson
Margaret spoke about her week-long residency and solo exhibition, Time and Place, at the from out of the Blue Studio Gallery in Opunake.
She explained that, while out walking with her walking group, she looks around her surroundings and takes photographs of subjects that inspire her textile artworks.
During the residency, Margaret, experimented with dyeing different pieces of fabric using materials such as acorns, sycamores, and cabbage tree leaves. She noted that the fabric was soaked in soy, which served as the mordant. Margaret brought along samples of these fabrics, as well as some of her artworks, for us to view, touch, and admire.
