Anita Leong: Cosplay

Our speaker for the August meeting was Anita Leong, a Wellington cosplayer who has represented New Zealand internationally in Cosplay competitions. She took us through the steps of planning a cosplay project. It was interesting to see the similarities and differences with quilting, and the creative ways that materials are used in cosplay.

She bought a bone sword, which connects via a hidden pipe so it can be carried in a suitcase or similar, and a piece of armour made from EVA foam as an example of what can be done.

Anita’s panel was very interesting and generated a lot of questions, some of which had Anita admitting to ‘embarrassing’ secrets such as how costumes get stored and how much time she allows herself (not enough at all) to complete a project.

Shannon, our other invited cosplay guest, was unable to make it. Her photos still feature in the presentation so if you want to visit her page as well you can do so below

We also had an incredible show and tell with Jocelyn surprised us by producing a yellow quilt!
