Exhibition 2012

2012 Exhibition- Quilts! - A Celebration

27 September - 7 October 2012

Academy Gallery, Wellington

The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts have invited our Guild to exhibit in 2012.  This is an exciting opportunity for guild members to show our work in a central city venue.  As invited exhibitors, we can display our work with pride.  As the exhibition coincides with the internationally famous 2012 World of WearableArt™ Awards Show (in a venue just 2 minutes walk from the Academy Galleries), we are hopeful of attracting good attendances.

The exhibition committee is being convened by Kay Coolbear, ably assisted by a team of willing helpers - Sharon Siacci (Treasurer); Elizabeth Fisher; Anne Read; and Robyn Ashley, and a new guild member, Jennifer Hale.  Once again Claire Hodgson has agreed to be the exhibition designer, so we are indeed fortunate.  We have also secured the assistance of a number of off-committee helpers, for which we are very grateful.

All paid up guild members (including newsletter and life members) will be eligible to enter quilts Entries must have been finished since October 2010. As is customary, there will be a number of general exhibition categories. A new category – Upcycled Quilts, will provide an interesting perspective on the global credit crunch, as well as enabling members’ imagination to flow.

Alongside this will be the guild challenge – It’s a Bag.  Members are being asked to explore their creative side, and WOW us (and visitors to our exhibition) with their creations using the following criteria:

  1. Make a bag that measures no more than 50cm in any direction
(handles if required, can be additional to this measurement)
  2. The bag construction must include at least 60% fabric, but there is no limit to the other materials you can use
  3. The bag must be functional (i.e. it must be able to hold something)
  4. The bag must have been made since 9 September 2011

The opening night function for guild members and invited guests will be on Thursday 27th September 2012, with general exhibition viewing from the following day until Sunday 7th October.  We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
