About us

The Wellington Quilters Guild was formed in 1990 and became an incorporated Society in 1992.  The Guild is managed by a Committee, which is elected anually and meets monthly.

The Guild meets on the second Thursday of each calender month, at St John's Church hall, corner of Willis and Dixon Streets in Wellington.

The formal meeting starts at 7.30pm, with guild business followed by a block of the month draw, guest speaker/s and then show and tell of members' work.  There is also a raffle draw at every meeting.

Members can borrow books and videos on a range of subjects and techniques from our extensive library. Our catalogue can be viewed on http://www.librarything.com/catalog/WellingtonQuilters

Visitors are always welcome and are asked to pay a small visitors fee of $3.00 per person.

Activities

Classes

We regularly run Classes/workshops throughout the year.

Solstice Stitchery

The Guild Committee organises a weekend of quilting classes usually held in June around the time of the Winter Solstice.

UFO Weekends

Two or three times each year, a small group organises a weekend to work on their UFOs (unfinished objects).  These weekends are open to all members, and are held at the
Silverstream Retreat Centre.  The quilters attending work on their own projects, whether by machine of handwork.  Charges for the weekend vay according to the cost set by
camp management.

Exhibitions

In even-numbered years, a subcommittee of Guild members organises an exhibition of members' work, helped by many volunteers.  The theme and criteria for entry, together with
the rules for any Challenge, are decided by the Subcommittee.  Our next exhibition will be held in September 2010.

Symposium

The next National Quilt Symposium is to be held in Queenstown in April 2011.  This is a week-long national quilting event, including classes,
exhibits and merchant malls.  Many overseas tutors will come to teach as well as our fine NZ teachers.  Recently attendance at a Symposium has topped 1000 participants.
